Christi Lehner's Story When I quit my corporate job to became a full-time health counselor, I experienced immediate success. But my success came with a price. A few months into my business, I started noticing that emails took precedence over workouts. Back-to-back client calls translated into missed meals. Late nights on the computer triggered major attacks of the munchies. Oh, sure, my business was growing, but it was growing at the expense of my health. I was eating poorly, stressing myself out, and basically driving myself into the ground. I kept this pace up for a few months, but after a while, the lack of self-care caught up to me. I didn't have enough energy to focus during client sessions. I found it difficult to sit down and write eye-catching marketing materials. I had a tough time making decisions. I didn't want to go out and find new clients, because I was exhausted just trying to support the ones I had. As a result, my business started to suffer. Although I pushed ahead, tried harder, worked longer hours, sacrificed more... my business continued to slow down until I realized what was happening. The bottom line is this: by letting my health slide, I ultimately put my business at risk. I realized there was no way I could sustain my business success unless I made some immediate changes to my personal health routine. It was time to put my health first.
