How to Get Yourself Out of a Health Funk

The list below was compiled by Noelle S., a client of mine who participated in my Wild and Well Group Program a few years ago.

Noelle created this list to help her get back no track whenever she got into a 'health funk.'  These things listed below helped her motivate herself to start practicing self-care again.

Noelle recently gave me permission to share this list with my readers, in the hopes that it would inspire you to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and start making health changes.

Noelle's Boostraps List:

"How to Pick Myself Up When I Am in a Funk"

Make good food to eat. Think about salad, grains, something for tomorrow, a nice soup etc.  Pull out whatever is in the fridge/cabinets to prepare what is on hand or make a special trip to the grocery.  (Cleaning out the fridge is also helpful in the process.)

Make some garbanzo bean brownies to have something sweet & chocolaty to eat.  Also try some other sweet foods like squash, sweet potatoes, raisins, dates, fruit, grains, etc.

Drink more water.

Go to bed early. Take a nap.

Doing laundry, cleaning out a closet & vacuuming all help to move energy, get rid of stagnant energies and what is not working.

Do you need more time for yourself?  Cancel plans so get more alone time.

Or have you been spending too much time alone, feeling lonely and disconnected?  Make plans to see friends & family.  Get on the phone & make contact.  Check in with yourself to see which you need, maybe both.

Spend extra time in own room. Time to clean and putter around.  Helps to feel more grounded & some time to play and enjoy personal treasures.

Go for a walk.  Do yoga.  Get exercise.

Try Bach flower essences.  If you have not tried them before, go to Whole Foods and ask for Rescue Remedy.  Or read and see if there is one that fits how you are feeling.

Do something creative.

Start on an internal cleanse.  Have a media fast for a day, or longer.

Think about all your senses.  Beautiful flowers to look at, wonderful smelling lotion, extra touching or wearing soft fabrics, calming music and healthy foods can all help.

Think small.  What can I do now?  Do something for 5 minutes.  Take one small baby step.

Think big.  This funk is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.  Like salt in water.  If there is salt in a small glass of water, it makes it undrinkable.  However put the same amount of salt in a lake and it becomes almost unnoticeable. Make your life into a lake.  Expand your life.

Keep at it.  Getting out of a funk can take a bit.

Continue extra care even when you are feeling better.

Thanks, Noelle, for this awesome inspiration!
